Problem
This client is a public redevelopment agency for a city in the U.S. Basically, a small government operation in a mid-size city. Their goal is to provide quality private development through urban design, economic development, and infrastructure investment with a goal of helping the community thrive.
The client has a staff of about 20-30 people who work in a hybrid environment, however, mostly working from home. They had some significant turnover in the past 3 or 4 months and most of their new staff had no government entity experience.
The client is aware of cybersecurity risks and wanted to educate their employees to reduce the risks of an attack. They were particularly worried about social engineering, ransomware, and any new trends that they should be aware of.
Solution
We proposed a custom cybersecurity webinar that would presented to all staff. The webinar would be recorded and available for the client to download and use in the future. Planning for the webinar started with a meeting to understand the needs and expectations. During this conversation we learned more about their environment and the cybersecurity risk. We also learned about other trainings they received and how management thought they were ineffective.
Cost: $3,500 – $4,500
Approach
Since the client had previous trainings that they felt weren’t effective, we decided to make sure and be different. We didn’t want to us a bunch of facts and figures, instead we used examples of recent cyber attacks. We outlined details of the attack and how they happened. We made sure that the examples we used were relevant to the client staff. Same industries, same size range, or same type of risks. We sprinkled in a few facts to help drive home points.
We also included a section with actionable items employees could take to protect themselves at the office and while working from home. These tips included things like how to set a strong password and how to spot phishing emails.
Results
The webinar was delivered in real-time to approximately 20 users via video conference. It lasted 1 hour with some time for Q&A at the end. The client also received the recording which they can use in the future to train new employees.
